There's an unnecessary push to party sometimes. During certain holidays, people expect you to GET OUT THERE and UNLEASH THE BEAST. Well, now there's an appropriate reason to do both of those things at the very least this upcoming weekend.

Tango Alpha Tango headline the Doug Fir this Thursday with their high-energy, bluesy classic rock sounds--watch frontman Nathan Trueb for shredding guitar solos. Main support Fox and the Law have long been infiltrating the Portland scene with their hard-hitting rock n roll, including a recent live performance recorded at Banana Stand Media to be released in the near future. The Lower 48 open the night, trading guitar solos for harmonies and rad Beatles esque pop tunes.

Whoever said psych rock should have stayed in the ‘60s? Certainly not us. The newest split between San Francisco’s own Electric Shepherd and  Fox and The Law is a musical collaboration that has definitely caught our eye. At over 7 minutes, Electric Shepherd’s side featuring “ Glass Devil Blues is epic. The heavy, psych-infused garage rock track is powerful in its execution. Like many psych bands, the song wouldn’t be complete without getting a sludgy jam session or two in. The guys in Fox and The Law may know a few things about heartache, as indicated by its song Drops of Water. The bands portion of the split rings in as loud yet fuzzy, with gut wrenching blues vocals layered over. Needless to say, we’re digging this split.

Hemlock Tavern, a small bar that features great music acts, will be hosting a night of some bands bringing stylistic twists to the well-known rock and roll genre. Lemme Adams, who just released a new album, “Gorilla Back” this August, will be bringing some experimental psychedelic rock to the bill, bringing a trumpet and trombone twist to an otherwise eclectic daze sound. Hungry Skinny takes the classic blues rock sound and adds a dirty twist to it. Fox and the Law, coming from Seattle, bring a garage rock sound to the line-up, while mixing very unorthodox, but enchanting, vocals to the mix. Electric Shepherd, who just released their new single, “Glass Devil Blues,” use classic psychedelic riffs and breakdowns, a funky rhythm section, and a large amount of heavy drive to create their heavy psychedelic rock sound.
