Austin Favorites Holiday Mountain Want to Know Your Name in New J-Poptastic Music Video

Reigning Austin odd pop champions and 2014’s Deli Austin Artist of the Year Holiday Mountain are back to whack you upside the brain with a new and ultra-colorful music video that’ll get your summer party going. The vid, for new hard-dancing quirky ass pop song ‘Cómo Te Llamas,’ is all future fashion, exaggerated butts ‘n boobs and Holiday Mountain lead Laura Patiño using her trademark voice to ask what your name is while heading a troupe of brightly bedecked dancers (clothes designed by up-and-coming Austin fashion house Witchxxdoctor) through a surreal J-pop infused world of fun that has been put together by director Brittany Reeber. Holiday Mountain has been cemented as one of Austin’s groups most willing to flirt with pure pop music, while also being one of the acts most willing to push creative boundaries, and as you’ll see below, they’re still driving hard in that lane here in the middle of 2016. Get your weird on below, y’all.

Holiday Mountain Topping Lists Again, Album and RJD2 Show Upcoming

Holiday Mountain is a band that just wants you to have some damn fun. Watchin’ these cats live, you get the feeling that having fun is somethin’ they’re probably pretty good at themselves. If the last few years are any indication, though, there’s something else that Holiday Mountain is pretty darn good at, and that’s getting their music into ears and their name into minds all over the nation.

Just look at what they’ve been up to lately- hot off being The Deli’s 2013 winner of our Best of 2013 Poll for Emerging Austin Artists, Holiday Mountain just wrapped a tour with big-name act Ben Kweller and followed up that impressive feat with a residency at NYC locals-favorite venue Pianos. And, just this week, they nailed the #3 spot on Sonic Vault’s Top 25 Austin Bands of 2014 list, following a #1 showing last year.

Add to that a February 28 show at Empire Control Room & Garage with the inimitable electronic virtuoso RJD2 (one of the best live acts this writer has ever witnessed) and their album You Be You, set to drop soon, and 2015 looks to be only more of the same for Holiday Mountain. Get your ears on their new single below, look out for that album, and have some fun with Holiday Mountain dammit. -- Trevor Talley @defenderdefends

Best of 2013 Poll for Emerging Austin Artists: FINAL RESULTS!

Deli Nation,

Our Year End Poll for Emerging Austin Artists was - as usual - a painstaking (and somewhat excruciating) process, but we pulled it of with remarkable flair! Kudos to Holiday Mountain for winning it!

First, we let the local bands submit their music (for free), and got our Deli editors to pick the nominees. Then we polled a list of 15+ Austin scene expert (our jury, list at the bottom) and asked them to nominate 3 more bands of their choice each. Then we polled our writers, then we polled our readers. We tried to keep things open for each single genre, from Indie Rock to Roots Music to Hip Hop.

If you are a geek interested in all the subtelties related to how this poll works, you can read its rules here (happy reading!). But if all you care about is the awesome new music Austin produced in the year 2013, this list is all you need. Enjoy!

Holiday Mountain Will Make You Dance at Austin Deli’s Well-Being for Women Showcase This Saturday, January 18th

Holiday Mountain play hard. Dancing, glitter and matching neons are just a few staples that comprise the band’s energetic live show. What else would you expect from a psychedelic funk band? Holiday Mountain don’t take themselves too seriously and as a result, nobody in the audience does either; their crowds aren't afraid to follow suit and bust a move.

Holiday Mountain plans to release new music in early 2014 and was named Austin’s No. 1 Band of 2013 by Sonic Vault. (They have also been nominated for our poll so don't forget to vote!) Take part in the revelry this Saturday, January 18th at Austin Deli's Well-Being for Women Showcase at Spider House Ballroom. --Written by Gillian Driscoll
