Justine Lucas

Songwriter Justine Lucas Kicks Off Nepal Earthquake Fundraiser

Native San Franciscan folk artist Justine Lucas is using her music to raise funds for earthquake relief in a small village called Maleng, Nepal. Specifically to help the survivors of the affected area rebuild their homes that were demolished by the quake, Justine’s focus on this cause comes from her personal connection to the village. To assist her friend’s Nepalese family and all the neighboring families, in their tight-knit community, she will be donating 100% of any album download sales for the rest of July.

“I really believe in supporting this kind of small-community effort, it’s like DIY fundraising,” says Justine, “There’s no overhead and therefore it has an immediate impact on improving life for the affected victims. Because the funds are going directly to the villagers of Maleng, it allows them to rebuild their homes in a way that restores their culture and is functional for their way of life. It means they’re getting what they need, not some culturally-irrelevent version of what American government assumes they need.”

If you’re interested in helping the villagers rebuild their homes, you can go to Justine’s site and download any album for your donation:

A little about Justine’s music: her art showcases musical storytelling and an intimate approach to performance. She currently lives on tour as an independent and self-produced artist, traveling and expanding her exposure to traditional folk musics in different countries.

Justine Lucas Celebrates Her Album Release at Viracocha TONIGHT

San Francisco based singer/songwriter, Justine Lucas will be celebrating the release of her new album tonight. Make your way to the tucked away acoustic venue, Viracocha in the Mission District to hear some super high quality bluegrass, post modern folk music. Lee White and Nelsen & Farney (members of Electric Shepherd and The Love Dimension) will support Lucus, whose voice is milky and flawless.

Justine Lucas is one of the original members of the gypsy folk rock band, The Jaunting Martyrs and released her debut solo album, Hologram Lagoon in December 2013. Now the follow up has finally been completed and we recommend you support this talented local artist and experience some really beautiful acoustic tunes.

Artist to Watch: Justine Lucas

San Francisco based minimalist avant singer songwriter, Justine Lucas has touched our hearts with her recordings of smooth rhythmic guitar melodies, and softly haunting atmospheric backdrops of birds singing, and natural sounds bellowing under her beautiful voice. She released an album last year entitled, Hologram Lagoon, and you can check it out in its entirety via Bandcamp.

Justine will be performing live this weekend on July 5th at the Vortex Room to celebrate, fellow musician and songwriter, Mark Nelsen’s album release. You may recognize Lucas from her work in The Jaunting Martyrs. Her solo music is a lot sweeter and calming, but her talent translates through every project she works and sings on.

We at The Deli think you should listen to her music, buy her album, and see her play live. Not everything has to be in your face to be relevant and awesome. Sometimes a subtle touch is all you need when it comes to good music. -je
