Weekend Warrior May 12 - 14

An immediate, determined sense of soulful urgency drips from Sheer Mag. Shrouded in sticky grooves united with decisively climbing guitar licks, the band seizes the opportunity, gathering the collective energy within the room and harnessing it into an exhibition, showcasing the duality, when vulnerability transforms into power. Fresh off the announcement of their forthcoming debut full-length Need to Feel Your Love, which will be available on July 16 via Static Shock Records, the former Deli Philly Artist(s) of Year bring their rippin' and roarin' chew ‘em up and spit ‘em out rock 'n' roll to First Unitarian Church this Saturday. The melodic, fuzz-speckled, bass-thumping garage-punk of Marge help to fortify this billing, which also includes Vancouver’s Weed.

Meanwhile, over at PhilaMOCA on the same evening, the bright, bubbling, psych-venturing pop of six-piece collective Circadian Rhythms gently stacks instrumental layers, melding refreshingly with its slightly off-kilter arrangements. The band will be celebrating its new record, A Peculiar Kind of Afternoon, supported by the sunny instrumentals of R.R. Perkins and the casually cloudy exploits of Mavis the Dog. - Michael Colavita

Trish Keenan Duo Dives Into the Abyss at W/N W/N May 6

A folksy, echoing, psychedelic ambiance persists as one dives into the abyss better known as the sonic waves of Trish Keenan Duo. While the layers envelop a somewhat eerie, meditative state, the music constructs itself. Not so distant vibrations shake off the baggage of the everyday, allowing the internal speculations to temporarily rise to the surface as they seek illumination. The multi-faceted, electro-noise pop combination of Flesh Prince and the rich elusive instrumental tunes of R.R. Perkins help to mold this evening at W/N W/N. With a freshly released album Trix Shadow Yogurt, the industrial experimentation of Baltimore’s Kryz Kniv completes this lineup of sonic manipulators. W/N W/N, 931 Spring Garden St., 8pm, All Ages - Michael Colavita

Recent Featured Artist(s) Poll Winners R.R. Perkins have already put their studio time prize at Sleepless Sound to good use. The instrumental ensemble recorded a live sampling of material from their Volume II and Volume III releases. The Deli Philly's Featured Artist Poll Winner: R.R. Perkins

Though multi-instrumentalist/producer R.R. Perkins, a.k.a. Robert Ross Perkins, may lack any words in his music, which plays out like cinematic snippets, he certainly has no problem coming up with a few humorous ones in the latest interview for our Featured Artist(s) Poll Winner. You can check it out HERE, and catch him tonight at Ortlieb’s opening for Superhuman Happiness. R.R. Perkins will be kicking the festivities off this evening, and helping you to momentarily forget about the impending workweek just a little longer. (Photo by Lauren Thomas)
