New Track: "Loving/Hating" - Weekender

A raunchy guitar riff spearheads the assertive attack of Weekender’s “Loving/Hating.” The song, which will be featured on their new EP Floaty Feeling, Blue, scheduled for release on January 15 via PaperCup Music, melds a heavy psych vibe with a daydreaming haze, echoing Tame Impala. They’ll be at Kung Fu Necktie tonight with Vug Arakas, Sam Kogon, and O-Face.

New Track: "Floaty Feeling, Blue" - Weekender

Elevate yourself toward the weekend with “Floaty Feeling, Blue,” the title track off Weekender’s forthcoming EP, scheduled for release towards the crack of the New Year, January 15, 2016 via PaperCup Music. The song coasts in a drifting, daydreaming manner. Floating on a mobile backend bedding and clean guitar, it momentarily reaches a tumultuous passage before reverting to a mellowed conclusion. Weekender Opening for Gringo Star at Ortlieb's Oct. 7

It looks rather grim and grey as I peer toward the heavens and my mind drifts toward the weekend. However, the tipping point lies in a show this evening at Ortlieb’s. Weekender navigates through the mountaintop fog with fuzz-spiked rock and a calm resolve trampling through the terrain in a manner that echoes of Britpop in a refreshing riff-propelled-floating-vocal-psych-stamped way. The trio of Satellite Hearts tethers an assortment of influential sounds, pulling Justin Pellecchia’s cooing vocals soaked in attitude and meshing it with purposeful guitar licks and a rumbling backend that’s garnered Desire Forces the Flow a frequent rotation spot. Sprinkling in classic R&B, a garage punch, onto a psych-rock scenario, Atlanta’s Gringo Star headline. Ortlieb’s, 847 N. Third St., 9pm, $10, 21+ (Photo by Jen Bragan) - Michael Colavita

Weekend Warrior, April 17 - 19

While you’ll probably get your fill of purchasing new music this Saturday, why not check out some new music live tonight at Bourbon & Branch? It’s been a moment since Worshyper have performed in Philly, and they’ll have a bunch of new material for us this evening. Psych-pop outfit Weekender has been working on recording new tunes as well so expect to hear them intermingled with the band’s older favorites. And if you haven’t grabbed your copy of Suburban Living’s self-titled LP (PaperCup Music), which was our February Record of the Month, then you should definitely save some money out of your Record Store Day budget to get one. After all, you don’t really need a made-up holiday to give you a reason to purchase great music. Bourbon & Branch, 705 N. 2nd St., 8pm, $10, 21+ - H.M. Kauffman

Communion Philadelphia w/Weekender, Birdie Busch and the Greatest Night, Marian Hill & More at Underground Arts Oct. 2

Tonight, the monthly installment of Communion Philadelphia occurs at Underground Arts; bringing with it, a lineup oozing with talent and a rotating two-stage setup aimed at keep the music perpetually rolling. As they work on the follow-up to Spanish Peaks, Weekender remains an intriguing group. Piling layers of clouds on to a crisp pop-rock base, thus adding an air of unpredictability, Weekender finds a smooth landing place between the straightforward and the overtly spaced-out. The bill will also include Birdie Busch and the Greatest Night, whose penetrating music is a take on Americana/folk, filled with lyrics that loop through your mind and instrumentation that constantly shifts the setting. The seductive smooth electro-R&B vocal groove combination of Samantha Gongol and Jeremy Lloyd, a.k.a. Marian Hill, wraps up the local element of the bill, which also features Field Report and Quiet Life. Underground Arts, 1200 Callowhill St., 8pm, $15, 21+ - Michael Colavita
