Slight bring their fuzz soaked power pop to Silent Barn on 8.21

While the members of Slight have been busy playing in Painted Zeros, LVL UP, and Normal Person, the trio has managed to find the time to drop two EPs and a single in the span of a year. In the fall of 2015 they released their sophomore EP Hate The Summer, which improved on of their 2014 single Runsoaking their catchy power pop melodies in guitar fuzz. In title-track Hate the Summer the band's fragile vocals, somewhat reminiscent of The Lemonheads, draw memorable pop hooks, while exploding guitars in the choruses channel the raw energy of rock'n'roll. Slight will be playing the Silent Barn on August 21st. - John Honan, photo by Stephanie Griffin

Deer Scout Opening for Kississippi at PhilaMOCA Aug. 18

Deer Scout celebrates the tape release of Customs (Fox Food Records) with a show this evening at PhilaMOCA. Dena Miller’s bedroom-folk narratives are depicted through a keenly observational perspective. Those unencumbered recollections place one inside personal memories. At times, she appears to be addressing the listener, while at others, she’s recalling and exploring internal contemplations, flipping the microscope on herself. Enthralling literary lyricism meets the strength and sincerity of vocal delivery, navigating on closely knit intrepid daydream-folk instrumentation, Kississippi grabs one’s attention, refusing to let go. The instantly invigorating power-pop of Brooklyn’s Fits and the synth-infused bedroom-pop of Boosegumps round out this lineup. PhilaMOCA, 531 N. 12th St., 8pm, $10, All Ages - Michael Colavita

Secret Crush brings their brand of shoegaze to Berlin 8/27

Secret Crush deals up sleepy but fun shoegaze propelled by infectious grooves. The vocals of the Bushwick-based group sound as if filtered through one of those low-power FM radio, and are set above dreamy, fuzzy guitars that are more playful than lofty. Their newly released EP, Birth, blends a strong garage-pop feel into the mix, and conveys to the tracks' swirling melodies a dance-y beat that's easy to latch on to. You can check out Secret Crush at Berlin playing with Beechwood on Aug 27th, but in the meantime take a listen at our favorite song 'Psychic Companion,' streaming below. - Olivia Sisinni

Eric Slick Opening for Ahleuchatistas at JB's Aug. 16

Eric Slick has always held things down on the skins for bands like Dr. Dog, Nightlands, Norwegian Arms, and The Adrian Belew Trio. And with Lithuania, he has certainly been building his comfort level and experience, enjoying the warmth of lights from the front of the stage. Slick recently dropped a new solo track called, "No," a tasty, pop morsel of disenchantment that's off his upcoming album, Palisades. Tonight, he'll be opening for avant-rock Asheville, NC duo Ahleuchatistas and Mary Lattimore at Johnny Brenda's. Also along for the odd, sonic adventure is Shimmer. Johnny Brenda's, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 9pm, $12, 21+ - H.M. Kauffman

Bueno set to release sophomore album 'Illuminate Your Room' on 8.19

Staten Island band Bueno is set to release their sophomore full length Illuminate Your Room on August 19th via a split release by Exploding In Sound and Babe City Records. While their previous releases were a raw but imaginative blend of garage ruck and post-punk, preview single “I’ve Got Your Back” veers toward a cleaner sound injected with slacker rock sensibilities reminiscent of Pavement. Frontman Luke Chiaruttini’s semi-spoken vocals examine life’s disappointments, and the fear of not being able to live up to expectations. - John Honan
