niecesandnephews recalls the experience sweet and sad on “Come By"

Lush electronics, memories which have just started to fade, and an abiding, comforting acoustic guitar bolster “Come By,” the latest single by niecesandnephews, but the song finds its greatest strength in the human voice. Composer-producer-songwriter Mario Gutierrez’s baritone register, in collaboration with Sara Sommerer, provides narration of events both past and present, unfurling a tale of lost love among a sea of bright instrumentation, almost as if he’s telling a long, sad story of indeterminate ending. Better yet, his choice pairing of folk textures with synthetic accents presents receding recollections of the past in appropriately hazy fashion — Gutierrez said the track itself details how, in recalling bygone romance, that “the vision is generally unclear, but we wish to just have that moment to show we can bring, but that time doesn’t come.” As such, it’s recommended listening for your next nostalgia trip, or for fans of Bon Iver circa 22, A Million era — stream it below.

Slow Dakota "Coming To The Nuisance"

Slow Dakota (aka Paul Sauerteig) has released a second single, "Coming To The Nuisance", from his forthcoming album Tornado Mass for Voice & Synthesizer which is due out May 1 on his own label Massif Records. This follows "Obelisk (The Tornado Speaks in Pan Flute)" which was released last month.

This is new single is oddly, but perfectly timed as it is about preparing for a mass disaster. When it was written Sauerteig had global warming in mind, but it seems all to fitting these days.

Paul Michael reveals the escape door in new record "Pain & Love"

Connecticut never stops surprising with its immense pool of talent, musicians of all genres, ever-growing. Paul Michael is swimming in that pool, and boy does he set himself apart with a delicious brand of EDM that is mint-modern and scented with touches of the French invasion of DJs that included David Guetta and Bob Sinclar. In his record Pain & Love, Michael showcases tracks like “Real Fantasy,” which are sensuous, silky, and powered by heartbeat-like rhythms to close your eyes to and surrender. Tributes are alive and well in songs like “Keep” whose synths peacock the pseudo-futurism of the ‘80s. “Some Things You Cannot Hide” has hints of pop, sticky-good, and very 2020. The record is an escape route that beckons; stream “Let Go of Me” below for a taste of something uplifting. - Rene Cobar

Shortwave "Frozen Waves"

Shortwave has released a new single called "Frozen Waves". This is the beautifully ambient music of Dave Zagar, and the first new music from him since his 2019 debut album Phased.

The song is accompanied by a short film, created by Dave's brother Andy Zagar, that truly brings to life the sounds and samples of the song.
