Bare Claws @ Smiling Buddha

Bare Claws for a 4 piecer from Newmarket, cathcy pop rock to the max! "Beautiful" from their self titled record has a nice mix of guitar an keys in the verse and the chorus is a beautiful mess of all instruments involved. Try to isolate each instrument in your head...how does it all make sense? It just does. Pretty cool. I wonder if they planned that? Anyways its pretty fun to listen to. I look forward to listening to more of Bare Claws. I also dig their Chicago Cubs style logo. These fellas will be doing their thing on Saturday 5/2 @ The Smiling Buddha for Canadian Music Week. Find out their set time and add it to your itinerary before you laminate it. -Kris “Big City” Gies

Beauty Pill's new album "Beauty Pill Describes Things As They Are" was released last Tuesday, April 21 via Butterscotch Records. The album comes 11 years after the band's last release and after band leader Chad Clark survived a rare and typically fatal heart disease. It's a deeply personal political album that combines the experimental side of indie rock with wholly new layers of electronics, beats and samples. Alex Mason @Junction City Music Hall

Alex Mason is a blues, folk-rock singer/songwriter with cleverly written and thought provoking lyrical content. His EP "Wistow Lows" is just a small taste of his talents; the entire EP is loaded with energy and punch, all-the-while showcasing his booming, gritty, stop-you-in-your-tracks voice! He's playing solo 04/30 @ Junction City Music Hall w/ Emmy Rouge and Hierophant, you won't want to miss it! So, make sure to take a listen to his EP and head on out to the show!-Courtney Chalapenko

DUTCH @ The Cavern Bar

I found my way to a Soundcloud page for a band called Dutch. They're from Toronto and they have the most honest bio I've ever read. "We have an album and we play shows. Nobody buys albums or goes to shows." I was hooked. They'd have to be really bad for me not to like them. So I fired up their album Rotoscope Down. The opening track "Dry Your Tears" was pure party punk rock...but kinda slacker punk rock too. It made me want to party and do nothing all at the same time. I get some Dinosaur Jr. vibes from it too which is extra bonus points from me. Either way these guys have fun shows to attend. See them tonight 4/23 @ The Cavern Bar with Big Frasier. For now have a listen to the album...-Kris “Big City” Gies
