Enchanters - Glam-Garage Trio Lee's Palace Show Review!

Earlier this month I was lucky enough to be at the jam packed Lee’s Palace for Danko Jones featuring the garage rockin’ Enchanters as the openers. This power trio, fronted by Craig Daniels, play great throwback 60’s garage rock with a heavy brit-rock influence from bands like The Kinks. Daniels’ fashion sense is second to none with the vintage striped pants he dawned as they took the stage. They opened up with a tune called “Backstabbers UK” which set the tone nicely. However they really kicked it into high gear on their third tune “Torture Chamber” which actually gives off some early KISS vibes. The guitar solo in particular ripped especially hard. “Too Late” showed off some psych rock elements but the highlight of the set was the gritty rocker “Firetruck”. The crowd popped huge as they finished the tune at a frenetic pace. The rhythm section were able to show off some of their chops during the final tune “High Heel Roller Skates”. Overall great set by Enchanters who would have certainly been hard to follow. Your next opportunity to rock out with them would be Saturday January 25th at This Ain’t Hollywood in Hamilton or Saturday February 15th at Bovine Sex Club. – Kris Gies

AB/CZ debuts with psych-Americana single "Yellow Into Blue"

A defining characteristic of modern musicians today is that they do not only create tunes to jam to but entire worlds to immerse in, atmospheres rich with their personalities. Amy Beauregard and Corey Zwart, known to some as AB/CZ, have done just that with their December single “Yellow Into Blue,” which takes traditional Americana instrumentation and blends it slowly with lingering distorted guitar-chords for an ever-quaking track that is a feast of sonic delicacies. You have an assertive drum beat, distant guitar solos, mighty vocals, and the best part, which is how one can truly appreciate each thanks to the track’s length: bask in the composition. The debut single is a fine introduction to the duo’s psych-Americana vibe; the Lowell, Massachusetts duo gets extra points for blending New England’s folk history with a more modern feel. Stream “Yellow Into Blue” below for a much-deserved Monday pick-me-up treat. - Rene Cobar

Paper Fairy play footsie in new video for "We Laugh," plays Berlin 12.8

Paper Fairy returns with a video for the new single "We Laugh", featuring project mastermind Chris Gaskell and a whole lot of feet. The single comes from the NYC-based band's Tautology EP, a follow-up to last year's Haunter Haunted. On Tautology, Gaskell's avant-garde pop creates a dialogue between the concepts of the real self and the performed self. The video for "We Laugh" shows this conversation through close-ups of feet touching, Gaskell's face appearing in the big toenail (an unlikely place for a face to appear), and glass causing blood to spill, along with other examinations of body, pain, and voyeurism. Take a look at the strange, weirdly-engrossing video below, and catch Paper Fairy at Berlin on December 8th for the video release show. - Will Sisskind
