Baltimore Raindeer's latest EP 'You Look Smashing' (released this past January) is a truly original and quirky work of lighthearted indie pop with influences ranging from 60's psychedelia to dream pop, filtered through a very personal musical lens. Recently the band has landed a series of festival gigs, including one at Scapescape this past weekend and at NYC's Northside Fest tomorrow (06.11). Check out single "This is Rock'n'Roll," which is not really Rock'n'Roll, but it's nonetheless a lot of fun.

If you’re constantly searching for good summer tunes, Lilith’s latest EP, In Warm Weather, is perfect for, well...warm weather. I found myself wishing for a summer rainstorm so I could sit on my back porch with this EP playing in the background.

I was particularly impressed with the vocals on In Warm Weather. Smooth, dream-like melodies float over arpeggiated chords, carrying you from track to track. I thought the opening song, “Storefront”, was the stand-out of the collection. Strong lyrics, a memorable melody and an excellent guitar lick in the verse make “Storefront” well worth several listens.

Muy Bueno. If you like your rock n roll mean, sleazy, noisy and edgy, you’ve found home. Mexican Slang pounds out cavernous, beautiful tunes driven by reckless sludgy guitar and garage-rock drums, with sickly sweet Annabelle's vocals front and centre for the whole ride. The energy and the grime of their A-side “Fever” paired with the erie pulse of “Goatlord” makes for a quick and dirty tumble through 5 minutes of adrenaline and attitude. There doesn’t seem to be any one defining influence over these three, other than a strong love for fuzztones and brevity, getting the point across loud, proud, and in a hurry. LA Jeff’s newest record, the aptly titled Holidaze Inn, is the perfect remedy for those late-night, (or anytime) fuzzed-out, psych rock cravings. 
My favorite track is “Sailor”, with its churning, hypnotizing chords and mesmerizing vocals. If I were to write a movie, I’d probably write a scene with a sailor having an acid trip on a boat just so I could put this in the soundtrack.

The San Francisco based psych shoegaze band, The Spiral Electric and Fine Points, the new formation of a band featuring members of the successful local psych-soul band, Sleepy Sun are going to be performing live at Brick and Mortar Music Hall on June 3rd.

Fine Points are so new that they have yet to release any recorded material, so this show should be some incentive to massage your curious nature (if you possess it) and see what the band can actually do. Obviously, The Spiral Electric is a great live band, and the legendary neo psych band, The Warlocks will be in town to put on an always stellar performance. The Warlocks are an indispensable band to the Los Angeles and Bay Area neo psychedelic music scene. They've opened doors for countless current local bands and helped set the sonic standard for the washed out, reverb latent garage rock style that we've all become accustomed to knowing as a huge chuck of the local music community's signature sound.
