Visual Vices: Brown Calculus - "Self Care"

Back in June, we shared one of the first recordings of "Self Care" by Brown Calculus. They had just hit our radar and thankfully so, because they haven't left it since. Last month they released a lovingly and beautifully shot video for the track and tonight, they're marking another moment; the drop of a new EP titled Live at the Map Room.

Live at the Map Room will actually be played by Brown Calculus live at Mississippi Pizza right around now, following a set from Just Pretend. It's going to be packed, so consider peeping the video for "Self Care" below. It's the opposite of disappointment.

Fusilier, Shenna and Lohai play at National Sawdust's Revolution #21 on 11.18

National Sawdust's monthly appointment with great local acts operating outside the "indie rock realm" returns on Saturday November 18 with the live performance of three very interesting artists, united by an original but entirely different approach to soul music: Fusilier, Shenna and Lohai. More info here.

We created a YouTube playlist of their recent videos, check it out!

New Track: "Lit With Love" - Masie Blu

“Lit With Love,” the new single from Masie Blu, is soulful hip-hop track that makes one feel like groovin' all night. Chase of Nazareth creates a slowed-down, sweltering beat, which Blu uses as a canvas to pen a letter of affection. An eternal flame of optimism beckons. Turn the lights down low, and float into the future.

The Majorleans return with new single and Berlin show 11.11

Some bands are like wine, they get better with time (sadly, most don't). The Majorleans' 2013 album "Black Belt" showed a confident band with solid songs and production values. Armed with a sound that could be described as "classic rock sans-cheese,"  and blessed with the character of songwriter Nicky Francis DiFonzo's vocals, the record brings to mind Tom Petty and the electric Bob Dylan of the '80s. But new single "Black Magic Woman" (streaming below) takes things to a whole new level: it's a blue blues made even darker and vintage sounding through a noir, loungey arrangement that flirts with psychedelia and The Beatles of Abbey Road. The trio will be performing at Berling on November 11, we recommend!
